Chow Chow Rescue & Adoption
Our Chows
We only offer chows for adoption that we would like to have as pets ourselves. We have very strict temperament requirements, so all of our chows are polite and well behaved with people and other dogs. All are housebroken, microchipped, spayed/neutered, free of intestinal worms, fleas and ticks, current on all shots, heartworm free and on preventative. Any special medical needs or injuries that we are aware of are treated and all medical records are given to adopters. If you are interested in a particular dog, please
email us for more information.
Baby purebred chow puppies are seldom homeless - that's why there aren't many of them available. Purebred puppies usually don't come to us until the owner tires of caring for and training a demanding puppy. We urge potential adopters to consider carefully before adopting a puppy. Puppies are time consuming, demanding and require intensive work and training. Even then, there are no guarantees. With an older dog, you know what you are getting up front and older dogs are so grateful for the opportunity to love and be loved.
Touched by a Chow

This rescue effort is dedicated to the loving memory of Sunny, the first purebred chow chow to touch our lives. She lived the first half of her life with someone that severely neglected her and then abandoned her when she reached middle age. She was found with a chain around her neck attached to a doghouse with no food or water. While Sunny was a castaway to her previous owner, she was a dear friend and a precious gift to
us. She was our little ray of sunshine and truly one the sweetest dogs to bless our lives. Sunny passed away on August 8, 2006 at the estimated age of 11. We were privileged to have this angel among us over 4 years and we cherished every minute with her. Our hope is that Sunny’s life will be an example of how rescued chow chows, despite their background, have so much love and devotion to share when given the opportunity. Sunny's life mattered and we will always be grateful for the incredible gift of hope she gave to us.
Be the change that you want to see in the world.

Who We Are
We are an all-volunteer organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3 charity. We are also an incorporated non-profit in the State of Ohio dedicated to finding loving, responsible homes for purebred chows in need. This is not a shelter! Our rescued chows are kept in home settings so that they can receive the daily love and attention that they need and deserve. Most chows come to us from shelters, animal control facilities or pounds when they are at high risk of being killed due to lack of space or opportunity. We accept chows given up by owners on a very limited basis, depending on the circumstances. If you have found a chow, please contact your local animal control, as that is who the chow’s owner will contact when trying to find their lost chow.

- seldom get along with large dogs of the same sex
- Chows are not "one person/family" dogs! They bond to new owners regardless of age.
- Sigmund Freud used his favorite chow-chow, Jo-Fi as a pet therapy dog. He felt that the presence of the dog seemed to have a calming influence on all patients, particularly children.
